A little history of Arcam’s Audio from world press:
Almost 40 years ago, two friends founded a small company named ‘Amplification and Recording Cambridge’ with the mission of producing excellent sounding equipment for the studio environment. The desire to capture all the detail a microphone could pickup lead to groundbreaking amplifier design, and ultimately a line of home stereo components. The name was shortened to Arcam, and they were off!
Involved early on in the development of digital audio for the home, Arcam launched the first outboard digital-to-analog convertor (DAC) designed to improve the sound of CD players. This was followed by the first digital radio tuner (DAB). This closeness to digital audio natural evolved into high performance AV components for home theater, which are regarded today as the best sounding available. Their experience developing DACs and CD players makes it possible that Arcam designs DVD players, and now Blu-Ray players, in-house from the ground up by Arcam. The knowledge gained there and in amplifier design is built directly into the AV receiver, quite possibly the most hostile environment to make great sound in.
An engineering focused company, all Arcam components are designed in the UK by a dedicated team of electronics and software engineers. The acquisition by Jam Industries in 2012 has been tremendously beneficial to product development, allowing Arcam engineers and designer access to technology and manufacturing that would normally be difficult to acquire. A huge advantage over its competition, this partnership has Arcam keeping up with quick changes of the tech world in a way never possible before.
