Classical music for many reasons is one of the hardest styles, genres, types of music which can be reproduced. Mozart’s Requiem in D minor includes a chorus of sopranos which Edith Mathis et al probably, and rightly so, never thought a recording, could ever be reproduced as they would have wanted it to. Rightly so, as the sopranos either bring an eardrum or annoy your pets to the point of suicide of highs.
Two channel reproduction of an orchestra of 50 instruments, is such a feat, which can only be described as something which even today, in our age of technology cannot complete.
We try to, we get the best recordings, we play on turntables and we actually get something, not all, but something.
Under normal circumstances we must have large speakers, or speakers which project a soundstage which is so grandiose that it can actually separate vertically and horizontally, all instruments being played, and voices of the many heard properly as it is in life, on stage.
Sure, it’s such an easy task that the Americans and Russians decided to go to the moon before trying to accomplish it. In fact it almost feels surreal to imagine we could enjoy such pieces of work from a digital device. This until recently, with the proper set up as I have now in my home for a month or two, and with the help of software that cleans windows- or even usb cleaners such as the 3R tested in this site have we the ability to even put a system to such a rigorous test. (Please read the review on the Suite of software tested and the 3R accordingly.)
Today, we have this test being done in my home. I actually have the prerequisites to apply the software from MusiCHIPlay and my system of the month, to sit down and listen to 4 hours and 32 minutes and 7 seconds of the aforementioned work (and much much more of Mozart) and either close the book on digital reproductions as such or keep it alive.
It honestly feels that this is a very large responsibility which I have given myself to undertake, but someone has to do it, so let it be me who actually doesn’t want to do it in the first place. I use Plato’s words while saying this, as he once said, he who wants to be voted, should not be, but he who does not want to be voted, truly understands the responsibilities and tasks at hand.
Today I also have something different in the system. Something interesting I would add, and I claim that only because of the cost, if they are special or not, according to me, we will shortly see. The Tellurium Q Silver Diamond Speaker Cables (https://telluriumq.com/silver-diamond-speaker-cable/)
The fact still remains that I never listen to digital reproductions of any type of large symphonies, classical or not. Sincerely, only turntables can do that with some respect to the music and the man who wrote the music. Today’s test is actually a frightening thought from yesterday, as I put the new cables on, which weigh more than my arm, and warm up the icon audio amplifier.
It is sunny outside and the room is not fully lighted, nor dark. The music will set the ambience I know, and if it succeeds I will have experienced something I never have before. A small, and I mean very small foot print speaker, the Reference 3A, with the equipment mentioned somewhere on this page, to step on grounds which were and have not been accomplished before.
Can it set the mood, the actual size, the temperature, or catch up in any resemblance to the bigger and ten to fifty time more expensive siblings that high end offers?
Not even I, have much hope on this one. And to be honest, I have enjoyed this set up like no other, in a very long time, as it is such a revealing, musical and fulfilling set up which has opened mouths of many who have walked into my home to hear this very accessible system, them entertain to such a degree.
I am actually nervous. I do not know what will happen and I have to write the truth, no matter how much it hurts.
I can only say that 20 seconds after I started the opening session.
I stopped and wrote these words you are reading right now. I stopped because of the true to life ambience given at 12:01 pm on this Saturday. Even I wanted to talk about the sensation of the first 20 seconds, where you know you are about to engage in a travel beyond our imagination or breadth of human thought and emotion.
I am actually petrified to continue, in thought of the loss of the magical 20 seconds; I first have the luck to live. I do not want to lose the magic that was felt, and I want to stop now that the system is ahead. I will not be disappointed because I will have only heard what I did. Is that called cheating? Oh well, press play Tony.

I cannot say that when the soprano chorus came in I was impressed. I know now that it was because of the inadequate warm up of the machines, and not due to me warming up of the equipment as some people would rightly think of. I revisited the same exact point when the gear was warmed up and it was evident enough to be certain in all objective aspects that I can be.
A blast of vocals and highs reveal the capabilities at low volumes which pass the test, but the real surprise was that this system can get loud and not lose its tonal precision in the least. The triode amplifier is obviously an asset here, and I cannot fathom hearing this work with anything else. The PCM quality normally pierces my ears within minutes on small speakers, but this time it is actually admirable on how well it can contain and surpass any speaker I have heard at this size, EVER.
The cable change has brought an elevation in every aspect of the listening pleasure. They cost quite a sum of money, but what they offer; to even a small system such as this is, is arguably worth every penny they do part you with.
I knew they were good, but what I didn’t know is that it can make something great, sound astonishingly real, like a passion fruit compared to banana. The difference is indeed 6000 worth. I cannot even start to emulate the sighs and head movement in the past hour, the compassion and heart-warming sensation which I have felt. That is simply something you cannot pay for under any terms or conditions. If someone could quantify how I felt, it would be a million dollars, and for me, and me alone, I feel this investment is one of the biggest felt and involving a stereo which already sounds great needs. A dose of truth. How much does that cost in your life? Think of it.

I need to stop because of the influx of emotions, and the continuous filling and emptiness of my own being. The swing of chorus vocals and instruments in a blend of harmony, yet disarray that comes from the tension of Mozart’s requiem is disabling my every movement, to the point, not even food, nor was water sought for during this time.

After my restart, I grab the computer given to me from the developer of the software which was also tested today and go through various pieces of music. As you will read in another article, we have a clear no brainer upgrade here, and even without it, with this equipment used today, I heard magic. Imagine what you get when magic is squared!!

In conclusion, (like we do in high school, where we have to restate what we said above) I have the following comments to make.
Classical music, specifically, Mozart’s Requiem, can be reproduced to an unprecedented level with the technology and proper mixing of amplifier, cable, and speaker. The room is important, but not as much as thought it would be. This might be due to the speaker size, being so small it can literally play anywhere, with windows open, closed or playing from a meter from the wall or even less.
BE CAREFUL, and before buying, listen first. Do not listen to one piece and leave, have the patience and listen for a while. If your dealer is pushy, go to another. I mean that. Listen or do not purchase.
Thirdly, if you can hear this specific CD as well as I have just explained, BUY it. Sell your equity in your holdings, or put up a few months payment. The change in lifestyle that can be achieved, not to mention the health benefits, cost effective return, (not needing to go out so often) is a definite here. As is the less you need to drink and eat while you are engaged in the listening.
So go out and listen. Listen to everything you can before you buy, and then be free as to choose. Let no one push you and let no one choose for you. Just get the best from everyone you meet and move on. That is my advice to those out there about to start, or helping others get a new system.
I rest my case. Music wins. – Tony Pothitos
